DESCRIPTION: EPW - J.R. Arnold, C. Frodsham, 84 Strand, London, keyless lever, 50mm, 18K gold original demi-HC with London hallmark somewhat indistinct to wear but appears likely for 1855, "F M" marking in cameo for casemaker Frederick Samuel Matthews, white enamel SS dial, SW-KS with Prest's keyless winding system, fully capped lever escapement, diamond endstone, 17J, gilt mvt, s#8596 with matching serial number to dial and within case. Gross weight of assembled watch 63.7 dwt (99.1 g). From the collection of Robert L. Ravel, M.D.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, some clouding of gilt finish, scattered micro-fine scratches, ultra-fine scratch striations likely from a past wiping; dial with two blue colored hls to right side, small faint hl near 12; fine hands with some oxide and finish loss; case front with occasional tendency to hang on latch and need assistance releasing to open, case shows ample wear, some scratches and small mars at upper right edge of rear perimeter from misguided past attempts to open this area (which does not open) with a blade, pinpoint nick to lower right perimeter of rear, no dents or dings, substantially reduced engine turning detail with large portion fully lost and remaining portions only lightly visible, blue enamel inlay of demi chapter markings is largely intact with only small bits of loss; tight bow thinned at top, crown shows substantial wear; good glass crystals.
